The lower level was tucked into the hillside by
sculpting the land (while still preserving it's natural appearance). The
result is a house that looks like it fits the land, rather than looking
like the land has been made to fit the house. The center portion of the
basement has access to the garden, but the rooms above are not cut off
from the yard either. Walkways lead to the patios on the sides of the
house so that almost all rooms on the main level have outdoor access as
well.
