Shenstone is a planned unit development in Kent, Washington. 22 single-family homes are arranged around a loop road through the gently sloping site. Rather than create the traditional community of front yards with garages, and fenced private rear yards, this development arranges homes around shared common spaces with walking paths that encourage meandering through the community by foot, rather than by car. Where possible, garages are located in rear yards and share driveways with neighbors. Courtyard homes are developed in two corners of the property to take advantage of the depth of the site and create small enclosed courtyards for children to play or residents to gather.
