The Tension
Table uses the forces of tension and compression to hold the
table together. The design incorporates leather straps that pull the
table top downward. This force pushes the cross-members together keeping
the legs from separating. The top is made of cherry, and the legs are
made of birch specifically chosen for its burled grain. No "off-the-shelf"
hardware was used for the Tension Table
- all connectors, such as those that allow the leather to connect to
the legs and table top, were fabricated by hand.
