The objective of this three-week section was to design a small architectural project through a process alternating between drawing and model building. In the initial phase of the exercise, the students were asked to design an object that described space through the manipulation and transformation of a simple starting point [a planar surface]. The investigations were required to incorporate a stair and a ramp. Through the development of a series of two dimensional and three dimensional representations of the object, the students demonstrated an increasing awareness of structure, construction, and material and their relationship to the conceptual and poetic underpinnings of the conceived space.
